Streamline Technologies recently had the honor of participating in two industry events that are shaping the future of stormwater management and GIS technology as we know it: StormCon 2024 and the Central Florida GIS Workshop.

These conferences not only offered exceptional learning and networking opportunities but also allowed us to demonstrate our cutting-edge solutions and connect with leading professionals from across our field.

StormCon 2024: Leading the Way in Stormwater Management

Held in Reno, NV, StormCon 2024 served as a premier gathering for stormwater managers, erosion control specialists, and engineers alike. With a comprehensive multi-track program, the conference explored a range of critical topics and was equipped with presentations focused on policy and compliance programs, green infrastructure, flood modeling and mitigation, erosion control, and more.

An opening keynote discussed the changing climate and its impact on extreme events. Sunny Wescott, CISA ISD Chief Meteorologist at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, provided an overview of the nationwide impacts that the changing atmosphere has on critical infrastructure across the country, urging the industry to be aware of potential changes as we move forward with stormwater and flood planning and management.

The exhibit hall showcased exciting technologies and products related to stormwater management and infrastructure, allowing professionals from across the industry to connect and learn about emerging techniques.

Streamline Technologies’ Principal Water Resources Engineer, Cara Reichenbach, PE, had the pleasure of attending the event and engaging with industry leaders from across the nation, sharing her insights into the conference in stating:

“StormCon provided an excellent platform for exchanging ideas and exploring innovative solutions in stormwater management. It was a privilege to connect with so many professionals dedicated to advancing our field.”

Central Florida GIS Workshop: Advancing GIS and Flood Forecasting

The 17th Annual Central Florida GIS Workshop, held in Daytona Beach, FL, is renowned for its focus on enhancing GIS education, promoting data sharing, and encouraging cooperation among GIS professionals. The workshop covers a wide array of topics, from GIS technology to regional data sharing.

Janardan Mainali, PhD, GISP, Streamline Technologies’ Lead Geospatial Data Scientist, was thrilled to attend and contribute to the workshop with his presentation on "GIS Data Integration in Realtime Flood Forecasting.”

In his presentation, Janardan aimed to enhance attendees’ understanding and management of flood risks - With accurate, high-resolution flood forecasts, we can not only anticipate, but also respond proactively to flooding events to aid governments, municipalities, and emergency response teams protect lives, preserve the environment, and safeguard the economy from flood impacts.

Janardan expressed his enthusiasm about the event in stating:

“Presenting at the CFGIS Workshop was an incredible experience. The participants were friendly and enthusiastic about the use of GIS technologies in various fields including flood forecasting. This workshop helped me to network, learn from, and share my insights with municipalities, as well as academic colleagues. It’s inspiring to see how GIS technology can be leveraged to improve flood forecasting and aid emergency response.”
