Stormwater is always in motion…. Shaping the landscapes around us, moving through the systems we build, and responding to every change in the environment. From the first drop of rainfall to the waterways that carry it onward, its path is complex, connected, and constantly evolving.
And for more than 40 years, water resources professionals have relied on StormWiseTM to understand one of our most complex natural systems: how water moves.
Formerly known as ICPR, StormWiseTM empowers engineers and modelers to identify flood risk, evaluate complex drainage systems, design resilient stormwater infrastructure, and make more informed decisions about the communities and environments they serve.
Today, StormWiseTM brings decades of proven hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) modeling experience into one flexible, fully integrated platform.
Complex Water Management Made Easy
StormWiseTM combines conventional one-dimensional (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) H&H modeling capabilities to give professionals the flexibility to evaluate everything from individual development sites to complex watershed-scale systems.
At its foundation is 1D H&H modeling.
Using StormWiseTM’s node-link modeling approach, engineers can represent ponds, pipes, channels, control structures, and other elements of a drainage system within a connected computational network.
From small-scale site drainage to large watershed studies, StormWiseTM Pro provides the tools to model rainfall to runoff, how stormwater moves through a drainage system, and how infrastructure responds under changing conditions.
For systems where water does not flow in a single defined path, such as channels and pipes, StormWiseTM Expert expands the modeling capabilities with fully integrated 2D overland flow.
Using a flexible, irregular triangular mesh, finite-volume approach, and “beyond” rain-on-grid techniques, StormWiseTM can simulate water moving dynamically across the landscape.
And because 1D and 2D surface flow interact with one another, engineers can develop integrated models that combine traditional drainage infrastructure with complex overland flow.
But water doesn’t only move across the surface.
That’s why StormWiseTM Expert also incorporates 2D groundwater modeling for the surficial aquifer, allowing users to evaluate groundwater levels, horizontal flow, seepage, leakage, and interactions between surface water and groundwater.
By bringing surface water and groundwater together within a single modeling environment, StormWiseTM gives professionals a more comprehensive way to evaluate interconnected water systems.
And StormWiseTM is continuing to evolve….
Water Quality
An upcoming major capability will introduce water quality constituent transport and removals directly into the StormWiseTM modeling environment.
Integrated with 1D hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, these significant water quality enhancement capabilities will allow users to evaluate constituent loading, movement through connected systems, treatment and removal, and continued transport through the hydraulic network.
For more than four decades, StormWiseTM has helped professionals understand how water moves.
Now, it’s expanding that understanding to include what moves within it.
Applications
Together, these capabilities support a wide range of water resources applications.
StormWiseTM can be used to evaluate land development projects, comparing pre- and post-development stormwater conditions.
For example, it can support stormwater facility design, enabling engineers to demonstrate that their designed stormwater facilities meet regulatory requirements.
For roadway drainage, StormWiseTM can represent complex interconnected drainage systems, including inlets, manholes, pipes, and stormwater ponds.
At a larger scale, engineers can develop watershed models to support planning, flood mitigation, and capital improvements.
StormWiseTM can also be applied to riverine studies and floodplain mapping, including rivers, creeks, canals, stream restoration projects, FEMA studies, and no-rise evaluations.
And for complex analyses, the integrated surface-water and groundwater capabilities support applications such as wetland restoration, water-budget analysis, continuous simulation, and surface-water groundwater interaction.
With water-quality capabilities on the horizon, StormWiseTM will extend those applications to include constituent loading, transport, treatment, and removal.
Acceptance & Compliance
StormWiseTM has a long history of supporting regulatory compliance.
In addition, StormWiseTM Pro is nationally accepted by FEMA for National Flood Insurance Program purposes.
StormWiseTM Expert is also FEMA-accepted and approved for use by multiple jurisdictions, including the State of Florida and communities in Texas, South Carolina, Indiana, and Missouri. In fact, any community can leverage StormWiseTM Expert for floodplain mapping through a simple process.
That means engineering professionals can use StormWiseTM not only to solve complex problems but to help meet regulatory requirements, support compliant project delivery, and confidently address demanding stormwater and flood-management challenges.
And behind the software is a team committed to helping users succeed.
Workshops & Technical Support
Streamline Technologies provides technical support to help users work through modeling questions and project challenges while building stronger connections with the professionals using StormWiseTM every day.
Interactive virtual workshops provide another opportunity to build expertise through hands-on, instructor-led training.
Whether someone is developing their first StormWiseTM model or expanding into more advanced modeling capabilities, our goal is to help users model confidently, efficiently, and effectively.
An Application Built by Engineers for Engineers
Because StormWiseTM is more than a modeling engine…. It’s over four decades of engineering knowledge, continually evolving to address the challenges facing today's communities.
From rainfall to runoff.
From pipes, channels, and stormwater facilities to floodplains.
From surface water to groundwater, and soon, constituent transport.
StormWiseTM brings complex systems together, so engineers can see more, understand more, and make better-informed decisions.
